Hey all, been planning another build for doing later in the year, not sure if I will do it for the ratrodbikes.com annual big build-off (RRBBO#09) starting May 1st or save it for later in the year when I plan to start another "MuscleBikeBuildOff" (RRBMBBO#03) but I am really looking forward to building it!
The problem with doing it for the Big Build-off is that it is the middle of winter here in Australia then and I work outside in the open, so it may not end up getting finished. The problem with doing it later in the mini MuscleBike Build-Off is that they normally only go for 2 months and I am not sure that will be a long enough to time to build it, it is a fairly complicated build and will be starting from scratch... Maybe seeing as it is me that seems to be running the MuscleBike Build-Off's lately I can extend it to 3 months starting mid September!
Anyway, I figured I would post up a rough sketch of my intended build here to get some initial feedback from you guys.
It is intended to be a 1960's style show bike, I have a 240/50/16MT Metzler tyre for the rear and a 110/70/12 scooter tyre for the front, I will be making my own custom wheels as usual, but this time the rear will be single sided mount with just the chain and freewheel on the driveside, no seatstays or chainstays.
Super short wheelbase which can be done due to the extreme width of crank axle meaning your feet will be further apart and so have more toe clearance to the front wheel.
I intend for huge double clamped ape hangers (1 meter or 40" tall) that will have mounts both above and below the fork to help limit flex, I did the same on my first muscle bike and it worked really well, admittedly they were not this tall though!
Last big feature will be the longboard holder mounted on the off-driveside for an added bonus.
So, what do you guys think? A good build?
Luke.
